いただきます!/itadakimasu/ Let’s eat
On the fifth episode of “You ate what?!” we revisit Japanese pickled foods! This one is my new favorite! This week I have been introducing myself to all 8 of my English classes. In my presentation I talk, briefly, about my love for peanut butter. I then allow students to talk to each other about their favorite foods. One student said that “Umeboshi” was his favorite food. After a bit, I asked Shiota sensei what that meant. Can you guess what he said?
Take a look at the picture. I’ll give you a hint. Think fruit. Think “pickled fruit”.
I learned that “umeboshi” is pickled plums!
The funniest part is that I’d recently bought a container to try and added one to my bento box this morning! It was おいいし(delicious)!
That delectable ball of goodness reminded me of Mexican candy. I immediately thought of “Lucas” candy. The plum was spicey, tart and a little sweet. 10 out of 10, I will eat these again! They remind me of Arizona without even trying.
御馳走様(でした)!/Gochisou sama (deshita)/Thank you for the delicious meal!
Yay! My guess was right!
